December 23, 2024: A rescue operation is currently underway for two foreign hikers in the Kotliči area, on the trail from Turska gora to Kamniško sedlo. Due to challenging conditions, rescue teams from GRS Kamnik, GRS Celje, GRS Kranj, and GRS Ljubljana have been mobilized.
8:00
Late yesterday afternoon, we received a distress call from two foreign nationals on the trail from Turska gora to Kamniško sedlo, in the Kotliči area.
Due to extremely challenging conditions, rescue teams from GRS Kamnik, GRS Celje, GRS Kranj, and GRS Ljubljana were mobilized. All four teams began their approach toward the stranded hikers: the Kamnik team reached Kamniško sedlo, while the Celje team advanced to the area above Okrešelj.
Intense snowfall and deep drifts posed significant risks to the rescuers, forcing us to temporarily halt the operation. All teams retreated to safety overnight, with the Celje team sheltering in a bivouac at Okrešelj.
In the early morning hours, the operation resumed. All teams are currently advancing on foot as high as possible, and we are awaiting confirmation on whether a helicopter can be deployed given the current conditions. Strong winds continue to complicate the effort.

The rescue operation in the Kotliči area is still ongoing. The Slovenian Police helicopter, with a GRZS team on board, attempted to assist but was unable to approach the location due to high winds. The rescue remains a ground-based effort for now. Weather conditions have not improved, and the route is further obstructed by fallen trees.
We thank our long-time supporters who help us on our way.
